Short-Term Running Goals:

Break 23:45 in the 5k.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Stay thin and full of energy.

Not be an embarassment to my family full of world class athletes.

Personal:

Madly in love with Sasha. We have been married since 1996 and have been blessed with seven of the most adorable and talented children : Benjamin, Jennifer, Julia, and Joseph, Jacob, William and Stephen.

All of our children have run in at least one race, including Jacob and William who did it inside the womb. I enjoy various non-running activities such as: baking, sewing, playing organ, piano and flute, painting, and playing with our  vivacious children.

Humph...wish I'd been in bed nursing a baby already...maybe I'll go overdue with this little guy like I did Jacob.

The trail was a beautiful mess with all the leaves down from yesterdays winds.  I picked up some walnuts from the bachelor pad yard across the street. I'm 99% sure those guys aren't going to try and harvest their walnuts so they can put it in their baked goods for Christmas. Maybe I'll go back with the kids today and we can ask them if they mind us cleaning up their yard a bit. The kids love cracking walnuts.

You are welcome to all of ours. We have 2 walnut trees and an allergic son. No nuts for mom :(

Sorry no baby! :( He'll come- they always do :)

Marion, that is an inevitable truth, huh? But think of this, SUPERMOM is out there running still!!! WOW with a capital W!!!

We had an aluminum roof in our first house and a walnut tree---that was fun!

Sarah - how soon after Will is born will you start back to running?

Maybe you should schedule 'something you can't miss' - that might get him moving.

Well..my kids Primary Program at church is this Sunday. It would be nice to be able to go to that. Maybe little Will has nice manners and is waiting for that to be over. I imagine that I can tell what their personality is like and I've already imagined that he is a sweet sensitive little soul. I actually guessed right with some of the kids. I used to yell at Sasha that I wasn't going to raise Joseph (while he was still inside me) because I could tell that he had his Dad's stubborn personality....oh..it is so true now..he looks and acts JUST like Sasha and Sasha thinks it's hilarious.

I think you are right Sarah. Each of my children's labors were very similar to their nature too. Ashley was 10 days early- she is NEVER late for anything. If she is not 15 min early, she is late. Kate refused to be born. STUBBORN child. She does things on her time and not mine, especially if it is my idea ;) Mac was born at 9 min to 9 on Sept 9th. He's smart and clever.

We learn so much as mothers, quietly observing our families. There is so much we learn that others miss in their hurried lives. I think that is why I like nursing. It forces me to sit and soak in my life. There is no hurrying nursing. ;)

I keep checking:) Maybe tomorrow, but today's not done.

I forgot to answer your question Tarzan...I thought you were a guy at first with that name...

Um..it depends on the delivery. I usually start running like 1/2 mile or something really insignificant at 2-3 weeks just so I can get out of the house and get my legs moving. By 4,5 or 6 weeks I start trying to do a mile or 2. So...pretty normal I think. With my third (which was a water birth) my midwife looked at me in amazement and said that I didn't even look like I'd had a baby. She okayed any kind of exercise I chose...so I think I started running early after that baby.

Sooo...how are you feeling now? (I couldn't resist!)

From sarah on Wed, Oct 22, 2008 at 16:56:54

I'm perfectly happy to have dear friends ask me how I'm doing. It's just when I go to church and there are so many people there that could say so many wrong things that I get a little nervous.

So...I feel fine...I had some more contractions this morning but nothing really painful. I keep thinking about this crazy story my brother told me a few weeks ago when he called to tell me his wife and he had had their baby. He heard it from a friend...This guy went over to visit a large family. The mother was cooking dinner. She suddenly told the 10 year old to take over cooking and went back into her room. 20 minutes later he heard a baby crying. Then the Mom came back out and finished cooking dinner. Okay...now that sounds too crazy to be true but I tend to believe my relatives...I'm dying to know if there are civilized women out there that really truly would do that.

I am sure there are! Our neighbor delivered at home in the bathroom, and just went about her day. Now, her midwife was there after the delivery (she did not make it quite fast enough), but she still delivered on her own!

All of my children have to be cut out of me, so what does that say about their personalities??? THEY ARE ALL STUBBORN!

From tarzan on Wed, Oct 22, 2008 at 19:18:19

That's okay Sarah - I just want to be Tarzan when I finally grow up.

My first one took forever to get out - that is what it is like to get her to get anything done.

My second one was laid back and had to be cut out of me. He has always required us to do most of his work for him.

I love all the stories about personalities and labors...I've actually never connected those before..I always just paid attention to the kicks and mother's intuition.

I go about my day pretty much until active labor starts. With one delivery I made everyone lunch that was at my house. When they finally checked me I was all the way to an 8 and I'd hardly felt anything. (8 to 10 and pushing always hurts BAAAAAD for me though...that's the way it should be)

I want to be an artist when I grow up. :)
