Short-Term Running Goals:

Break 23:45 in the 5k.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Stay thin and full of energy.

Not be an embarassment to my family full of world class athletes.

Personal:

Madly in love with Sasha. We have been married since 1996 and have been blessed with seven of the most adorable and talented children : Benjamin, Jennifer, Julia, and Joseph, Jacob, William and Stephen.

All of our children have run in at least one race, including Jacob and William who did it inside the womb. I enjoy various non-running activities such as: baking, sewing, playing organ, piano and flute, painting, and playing with our  vivacious children.

Did my 3...now I'm sitting here thinking about why it makes me so mad every time Sasha goes to a race and I'm stuck home.  I've been married to him for 12 years now and he's raced for that entire time....I used to go to the races with him but for the last few years that's been hard...4 kids, pregnant with the fifth, five kids, pregnant with the sixth, six kids..I've always hated being left at home. Even as a child I'd beg my mom to take me with her when at all possible..she probably loved it when I was in school and she knew I was busy.

Well...I guess it gives me more time to do fun things like get the kids to help me deep clean the kitchen. It's so nice to have extra scrubbers!!! :)

Maybe it is your turn to race and have him stay home with the kids? jk good job on getting out this morning.

He would love for me to race...maybe when the baby is older :)

From Marion on Sat, Jan 31, 2009 at 15:35:37

I would feel the same way. It would tick me off too! Babies are hard to drag around, especially when it is FREEZING out side :)

I think he'll be very helpful when he gets home today...

From Lybi on Sat, Jan 31, 2009 at 15:49:11

If you really want Sasha to appreciate you when he leaves you at home for a race, you better travel to a faraway race and only take the baby. Give 'im a little taste.

Arizona is nice this time of year, come to think of it, and I happen to know a certain lady *ahem* that would LOOOOVE to hold your baby for you while you race...

Good luck with the penance! I have a great new recipe for you to try. You cook a pound of lentils in whatever broth you like. then add 3 large leeks, chopped, an onion, chopped and 1 bunch cilantro, chopped. It is the BEST soup ever. My SIL gave me the recipe and I am hooked!

Lybi-That is a GREAT idea....when is the race? Sasha can't say no because he loves you too much. I was wondering what's the matter with me and it MUST be because I haven't gotten my Lybi dose for the year. ;) I know...I'll run your Ragnar legs in the middle of the night because by baby sleeps all night anyway. Did they find a replacement?

Marion-I personally think Lentils are the best food in the world. They are perfect for lazy people like me who aren't even organized enough most weeks to remember to soak the beans.

Although I have to say that I didn't buy any meat last week to try and save some money and make myself cook beans...and it worked. I put them in my crockpot without soaking them and four or so hours later on high they were good. It was great because I really really really can't remember to soak the beans.

If you are loving the beans lately, I love to cook the black beans in the crock pot and then once they are tender, drain them and cover them with your favorite salsa. Cook your brown rice how ever you like to and then add one bunch of chopped cilantro right before serving the rice. It is the best rice and beans in the whole world. Yes- I am on a cilantro kick :)

From sarah on Sat, Jan 31, 2009 at 16:42:26

I love cilantro too..and black beans..sounds yummy!! Sasha once complained about the beans and rice I made. I can't make him happy. (he may say the same thing about me) He wants to eat less meat and sometimes doesn't really like eating beans or lentils either. I think he is a nut person..we all have our healthy protein of choice. I can do without nuts but I LOVE beans.

From Marion on Sat, Jan 31, 2009 at 17:26:58

No complaints around here... I refuse to cook if they complain. ;) After a few weeks of spaghetti, they repent!

We eat a variety of protein sources. Each type of protein has different amino acids and I feel like we get the most nutrients by eating a variety. We do eat little red meat, some chicken and lots of beans! The meats are not my problem, it's the treats! Man do I love a good brownie! I make black bean ones that are super good :)

My kids know better...I have trained them oh I have trained them. Sasha however was RUINED by his mother. As much as I love her I may never forgive her for it. And he was partly ruined by sheer force of being a man in Russia...they are spoiled and pampered. He never had any chores growing up...none..just to exist and be fed because he was a man. He turned out amazingly well against all odds I think.

Sarah - next time he races in Salt Lake - drop a couple of kids off at my place and I will entertain them. Or - have yourself dropped off with the kids.

Do you have a pressure cooker? I used to take a day or so when I would pressure cook all my beans for several months in advance - so I didn't have to soak them - just pull out a jar of them for my recipes.

From sarah on Sun, Feb 01, 2009 at 16:26:24

Thank you..Sasha actually suggested we call you for help with Salt Lake races too. I'll let you know. thank you thank you

Did you can the beans after you cooked them? I've thought of doing that too!

From tarzan on Sun, Feb 01, 2009 at 23:51:05

Oh yeah - anytime you are in the area and want to leave me a couple of kids I would be happy to take them.

As for the beans - you soak them overnight in water (I will have to look up the directions) and then pack them in salt water and pressure cook them which cans and cooks them at the same time. I used to do a ton of beans over a couple of days - multiple types - so that I would have 6 months to a years worth of beans for chili and such and not have to worry about soaking them when I needed them.

I might come down to the race next Saturday if you want to run together or have me hold William. Or I could snuggle with Julia :)
