Good run again today. We've had a crazy week though. We found deadly nightshade growing in our front bushes. Well..it had been growing there but I didn't do anything with it because the flowers were so pretty. Then Sasha's mom says, "Oh I used to eat those sometimes when I was a kid..they are poisonous..they are related to the tomato." ding ding..my herb training went off..I know that plant but I'd never seen it in flowering form..just the deadly black berry form. I looked it up on-line and sure enough...the dreaded deadly nightshade that I had been innocently and ignorantly admiring all summer. We got the bushes and all of the yucky plant taken out right away. Then yesterday we got a letter from Provo city saying our side yard was in violation. When we got construction done last fall they left rocks and dirt on the side yard. Lots of people have rocks on the side on their yard and park there so I didn't think anything of it. Now I know that if you've had rocks as a parking place for several years..before they passed the new law..then it's okay. If it's new rocks and you want to park there ...or even if you pave it...they won't let you anymore. It's a beautiful example of cruel government...I get this letter yesterday...I'm 9 days away from having our 7th child and the letter gives me 14 days to get the landscaping fixed. Since Sasha is too busy to leave work I go down to their office..cry my eyes out..well I didn't really..but I did lose it for a second...and get a whole 14 days more. They did say they will work will us if the landscaping crew has started the job but not finished because of scheduling difficulties....maybe the next few days will be calmer with no deadly plants in my yard or mean letters from Provo city. BTW...the deadly nightshade plant is potent enough that a single leaf is lethal to an adult..2-3 berries kill a child..8-10 an adult....seriously scary stuff...have a good one everybody! |
